    Featured Speakers:

    Professor Ruth DeFries

    Professor Ruth DeFries is a leading expert in ecology and sustainable development. As a co-founding dean of the Columbia Climate School and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Professor DeFries has dedicated her research to understanding how global demands for food and resources are reshaping land use, particularly in the tropics. Her work focuses on central India, a region of immense ecological significance for tiger conservation and a hotspot for climate impacts affecting vulnerable communities.

    Professor Jessica Fanzo 
    Jessica Fanzo is a Professor of Climate and Director of the Food for Humanity Initiative at the Columbia Climate School.  Her transdisciplinary research discerns and analyzes the connections between climate change and food systems in nutrition- and climate-vulnerable communities living in resource-constrained settings to identify and explore opportunities within food systems to enhance diet, nutrition, and environmental outcomes.

    Additionally, we will provide an overview of our diverse graduate education and professional learning opportunities, designed to equip future leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to tackle the pressing issues of climate change and disaster resilience.
